I have finished prepping all garden beds. That means that I weeded, broke the soil up and removed debris. Then I added manure and new soil on top. I had already completed two beds prior to today and had planted/seeded them. Today I finished the rest.
The big one that I did today will be for tomatoes and peppers. I expect to plant 3 different tomato plants with two normal size and one cherry size. Then I will get 2 pepper plants…a green pepper and maybe a hot banana one. It will depend on what the box store or garden center have. I expect to transplant those on Sunday.
Also on Sunday I will plant the pole beans and bush beans. Those beds are smaller. A couple of years ago, when I had a garden the bush beans did OK but the pole beans struggled. I am hoping that their beds will prove more useful for their growth.
I attended an online gardening conference this year and learned to put straw around all my garden plants. I have tried that in the two beds that are already growing, and I am pleased. No weeds at all.
In addition to all the garden bed prepping, I also added soil to my potatoes that are growing and planted the sprig of forsythia that I have been growing in water for about a year. I do hope it takes to its new bed.
I am really feeling good about it all. Now to hope it stays stable while I am traveling for the last two weeks of April.
