Perspective

I am trying to learn a new perspective. When I was camping at Edisto Island, I saw a lot of marshland. This is a new environment to me as I grew up in the foothills of mountains.

I heard snapping shrimp when the tide was just right in the marsh. I saw snails hanging onto the grasses, and lots of little and medium crabs in the mud of the marsh banks. And, I saw birds…some I am still trying to identify from my poor pictures. Shore birds. Marsh birds.

None of these are common sights where I live. And, each introduced me to a new place and lifestyle.

This one is full of water…grasses…dead trees…and lots of little creatures.

It would not be my desired home. I mean, I am partial to mountains, streams tumbling over rocks, trees…and vistas seen from high. Still I was reminded, while on Edisto Island, that there is beauty in other places…and other ways of life.

Sometimes it helps to visit somewhere else…to meet new people…to experience something new. It helps to expand our perspective of life.

I started this by saying I was trying to learn a new perspective. I am learning how to share what I see and think with my camera. I am struggling a bit to get out of the automatic mode into a more manual one. It takes more work…more thought.

I think that is true for any new perspective. Sometimes we need to move from the automatic reaction to a more thoughtful one.
