I have been mulling over shadows and light in the past several weeks.
Shadows are creative objects in photography. As above, the shadow can be the subject of the picture or, at other times, it can enhance the subject of the picture as in pictures of faces or structures.
There are also shadows in our lives. Those are often the regrets we have about how we have lived our life…things done or undone, words said or not said. People we misjudged can be shadows also as are those with whom we have strong feelings or a tumultuous relationship.
It occurs to me that without light there is no shadow ~ only darkness.
Even in a moonlit night, there are shadows from the light of the moon. Some source of light is needed to be shined on an object to create a shadow.
The only exception is when the source of the light is the object itself. Then there is no shadow…only light.
Just so, shadows of our lives are only seen behind us by the light of our current understanding.
Another thing, shadows can only represent the object of the shadow. It is not the object. So, the shadows of our lives are not us…they only represent us as we used to be. They do not determine who we are but reflect where we were. There is no shadow ahead of us…only behind.
Worth thinking about, isn’t it?
