This picture is dark. However, there are two tall trees, one on the left side and another more visible on the right. And, sandwiched between the two is an early sunrise.
I was looking for a way to show sisters in nature. The trees represent that for me and for this blog.
I grew up desiring and choosing independence over family. I valued the old time-y western idea of exploring and living on one’s own. At least that was my idea of the many westerns and horse books I read as a child.
I’m not sure exactly why I decided to be alone. Maybe it was because I was, and so I wanted to be strong and capable on my own…not needing others who would disappoint and reject.
When I started this blog about a week ago, it was because I was so thrilled and delighted to have a long conversation with my sister. She gave me advice and shared some of her own life with me. It healed something in me…and it took a good 60+ years to receive it.
There are many reasons for my life and choices, but I am realizing that connection is important to all…even those of us of independent mind and stripes.
