Hiking

This picture was taken on a hike I did last summer while attending my first ever trailer rally in Colorado. It was a brutal first hike. Mountainous at high elevation in the sun. Rocky. The leader was great and made sure I stayed with the group by hiking behind me. A member of the group also loaned me a hiking pole. And I did it!

I am not a hiker. Oh, I had dreamed of hiking the Appalachian Trail when I was younger (my niece actually did this) and had gone on some walks along paths…but I am not a hiker. Mostly what I am is a “couch potato”. I sit and read a lot, although I do work in the garden or yard when it is the season. I do not even walk around the neighborhood.

Still one of my goals this year is to take care of my health, and exercise of my body is something I need to do. I have decided to take up hiking, so I joined a group called 52 Hikes. I have started reading through some of the beginner hiking info and made the decision to start on short hikes in my county.

I downloaded some hiking info and plans. I looked up hikes in my county and found that a local preserve had 3 trails approximately 1-1.5 miles in length with minor elevation. I also got a list from 52 Hikes of what to put in a hiking pack, although I doubt that I will need much on these short trails.

I ordered and received my hiking poles. Now to put together my kit. I already have good hiking boots.

And, I decided to try out the trails this weekend. Oh, and I will hike with my camera.
