Oh, my! My last post was 3 months ago!
So much has happened for me this year.
When this year started, I had plans for lots of new things to learn. I had obtained a used camping trailer and wanted to try my hand a pulling it and exploring new places. I thought I would do it with my dog…and then found a woman’s camping group (Sisters of the Fly) that I thought would be fun.
The upshot is that the year is nearly gone. I have been out camping once in the trailer (Sept) by myself. I have a tent attachment that I haven’t tried out yet…as well as a cover for it that I haven’t put on yet. I have removed the old broken stabilizers and had a neighbor put on the new ones for me. I bought a mattress topper for the bed, which I haven’t tried out yet.
I have learned to winterize the trailer, but I have still to fix the shower (re-caulking it). I bought an Omnia oven to use but have not yet learned how to cook in it.
I am leery about joining in on the SOTF camping and events due to the pandemic but I have made plans to do some camping events next year. (I have plans for 3 trips with the first in January!)
I also won a spot in a big rally to be held late in July-early August. It will be a BIG trip as it is on the far side of Colorado…just shy of 2000 miles away!
Another thing I wanted to do was learn more about birding. I signed up for a birding outing, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I also had taken a couple of classes of courses about backyard birds in which the pictures were so very poor. So I decided to see if I could do better. I enjoyed watching my birds on the feeders, so I decided to learn to identify them and to take pictures of them, which would mean learning how to use one of the many cameras I had.
And, I have done both. I have identified most of the birds that visit my home successfully as well as learned how to observe new birds in order to ID them. I have also started learning to use my Canon Rebel, but there is much more to learn as I only do the basic automatic stuff with 2 lenses.
I also advanced in my ability to garden, still having some successes and some failures. I also started planting beans and sweet potatoes in a new part of the yard. Again, mixed success.
I started a compost pile which is growing slowly, have begun to use eco-friendly products, and am recycling weekly.
I am posting a daily greeting post and for most of the year did a blessings post, which are liked by many of my FB friends and are an outlet for my creative writing.
Finally, I am cooking…well, mostly baking this season. I am enjoying the food I make and am learning new techniques nearly every time I try something.
That is just a small part of 2020 for me. It has been a good year for my personal growth…and staying home has been easy for the most part. I do miss seeing people and eating in restaurants, but I cannot complain. I have had lots to learn and do.
