As I said in the last post, I also made a list of interests: caring for leather, ancestry, stars, and shooting. Each of these are things I would like to do more of … maybe.
Let’s start with stars. I signed up for a senior extended learning course at the University near me, but I did not get in. Interest was too heavy. I know 2 constellations: Orion and the Big Dipper. I can pick out Mars. Other than that, my level of knowledge is at the “yep, there are bright (and lots of) stars” or “no, not many in the sky”. I had thought the course who help me expand my knowledge. Oh, well. Sometimes I get on the internet to discover what the planets are that I am seeing so brightly, but otherwise…
Ancestry: I have tried to connect various cousins and odd family members to my tree…and have worked a bit on Ed’s, but my research is hit or miss. When I am online with ancestry.com, it can consume hours!
Leather care: this came from my foray into the Leather world. It is considered very important to care for your leather items/clothing. I have learned enough to be adequate in my care, but it has never been the overwhelming interest that some leather people seem to have.
Finally, shooting: This was primarily Ed’s interest, and he wanted me to share it with him…so much so that I bought a gun. We also did a couple of gun courses together. When he died, I also kept (with permission) his Glock, which goes to his son, Rick. The year he died, I did go to the gun range, got instruction again on the use of my guns, and did quite well on the range. I have a concealed weapon permit in SC that is good in many states. But, I haven’t shot either of the guns since that last range visit…about 2 years ago.
I do believe that, as a gun owner, I should be proficient in their use and care. I just have not gotten around to it.
So, those are the things I listed as interests early this year. None of which I have really pursued except hit or miss on stars and ancestry. I wonder how much of an interest each is.
