Upon returning home

I just spent two weekends away from home. The days in-between were full of getting laundry done and re-packing to go on the next trip – a 4 day weekend.

Upon returning home from the second weekend away, and after spending a day unpacking, catching up on mail and online, and doing laundry, I looked around at all the chores left undone for two weeks.

I really like doing the outside stuff – mowing lawn, checking veggie garden, weed-whacking, and hedge clipping; but, after a few weeks of neglect, there is a lot to be done. Not to mention that it is now fall.

There are also the inside things to do. Grocery shop, vacuum, dust, re-make beds, prepare for next AirBnB guest, and cook some meals.

It is easy in the midst of all that needs to be done to lose sight of taking care of self and making time to process the two weekends. Both were leather events. Both were challenging in their own ways. And, I have much to consider.

Then there are the plans already made for two more conferences this month, the fact that my return this week was the beginning of Rosh HaShanah with Yom Kippur looming, and all that those events entail.

Returning home was a relief in some ways. A chance to decompress from so many new experiences and conversations. My own bed and shower. (The last weekend was spent at a campground with bugs in the showers and plastic on the mattresses.) My dog. My routine.
