I have just spent a week fighting a cold…or was it a respiratory virus…no, maybe allergies. I vacillated between each idea pretty much daily for the past week, choosing my strategy for treatment based on the symptoms and what I had on hand. As of today, I have come down on the side of allergies. Maybe it started as a cold, but it is now full blown sinus and cough symptoms.
Blowing my nose helps with the cough, but I, for one, cannot spend all day just blowing my nose in order not to cough. It is tiring and frustrating. So I went to the pharmacy to pick up something to help.
Now here is how my brain works… if I have too much mucous, then Mucinex should help, right? It kinda has that word “mucous” in the sound of the name. So that was what I was looking for…and it was in the right section – Cold/Allergies. But, oh my goodness, which one? There were several possible selections!
So, I approached the pharmacist. He steered me to an OTC antihistamine – generic Zyrtec. Although my particular mix of symptoms was not on the box label, I can already tell the difference. And, it is once a day, a big plus in my book.
So, when in doubt, ask someone who might be knowledgeable and then trust them. I did.
